Once upon a time there were two designers. They worked in a big design company with lots of people, multiple departments and plenty of red tape.
When their really good creative work was in danger of becoming really ordinary work, they decided to stop, and find out why. It didn’t take long to work out – the extra layers of people who should have made life easier for the designers (and the clients) were getting in the way.
At this point the two designers realised that less really is more. The less people involved, the more creative the work. So they left the big company, moved to the country, and set up a small agency. Pretty soon the really good work became really great work, which made the designers (us) and the clients (you) very happy.
We started Crilly & Wardell because we believed there was a better way to work with clients. And nothing has changed since we set up our studio in 2008. We are deliberately small so that we can work efficiently and responsively.
It sounds simple – because it is simple.
What we do
We create identities, we work with and develop existing identities, we design brand guidelines, we design for print, web, and everything in between.
We aren’t elitist. Projects big or small, corporate or independent, our design process and approach is the same. We love creating thought provoking design with integrity across all sectors. We seek out work that challenges us, pushes boundaries, and we want to work with and for good people, doing positive things that we believe in.
Adrian Crilly is an honours graduate of DIT College of Marketing and Design, where he studied Visual Communications. After graduating from DIT in 1992 he joined the Dublin based studio Photographics, where he helped establish a leading graphic design studio. In 1998 he co-founded Interweave, a new media and web design project, to explore the new emerging digital design. In 2003 as Photographics Creative Director he oversaw the studio’s rebranding to Fire.
Adrian has been directing clients in the private and public sectors on brand strategy and creative design for over twenty seven years, and has worked with clients such as SKY, Irish Distillers and Diageo. In 2008 he co-founded Crilly & Wardell Design Consultants.
Jane is also an honours graduate of DIT College of Marketing and Design, where she majored in Visual Communications and Typographic Design. After graduating from DIT in 1998 she joined Dublin design studio Photographics, and latterly was a major influence in its rebrand to Fire Design. As Senior Designer in Fire Jane gained invaluable experience in wide-based commercial visual communication which, when combined with the deeper foundations of her training as a graphic designer, gave her an advantage when she set up her own creative practice.
Jane has worked with a wide range of high profile clients on design and branding projects over a period of more than seventeen years. In 2008 she co-founded Crilly & Wardell Design Consultants.
